The Glennora - one of the earlier fishing boats owned by Bruce

Bruce's Country Market has a fleet of family run gillnet fish boats that catch wild sockeye salmon for our market. In fact, Bruce's grandsons who fish for the market are fourth generation fishermen! Over the years, our fishing fleet has grown, until now we have boats that fish in Prince Rupert, the east and west coast of Vancouver Island, and in the Fraser River. One of Bruce's earlier boats was the Glennora, named after his wife Elnora, and his daughter, Glenna. The Glennora was built right here in Albion by Don Puska. It was state of the art when it was built in 1960, but the total cost was only $10,000. A good bargain compared to today's prices! This photo shows the launching day of the Glennora, with Glenn McEachern holding the christening bottle, and Glenna Murray standing beside him, ready to christen the Glennora. Also seen are: Walter, Gordon, and Garry Muth, Vance McEachern, Ken Weedmark, Alan Baker, and Leonard Smart. Even 42 years later, most of the people in this picture or their children can be found in Albion.
